The Dental Clinic has an opportunity for a part-time DENTAL HYGIENIST
who will be responsible for dental hygiene assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care to clinic clients. The Dental Hygienist supervises students from the Dental Hygiene and Dental Assistant programs as well as assists the dentist and co-workers with the daily tasks required for operating the Clinic.
Non-Union - 0.20 F.T.E. – 14 Hours Bi-weekly
Responsibilities include: • Assessing dental hygiene. • Planning, implementing and evaluating the care of clinic clients. • Scaling and polishing teeth. • Taking and processing radiographs. • Reviewing dental and periodontal history. • Assisting the Dentist and co-workers with the daily tasks required of operating the clinic.
Qualifications include: • Completion of a Dental Hygienist diploma from a recognized program of study or equivalent is required. • Current registration with the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario (‘CDHO’) is required. • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification from an approved provider. • Three (3) years related experience is required. • Related experience working with geriatric clients is preferred. • Prior experience in a clinic setting is an asset. • Excellent ‘chairside’ manner with a strong client services focus. • Very good verbal and listening communication skills. • Good written communication skills. • Superior presentation and facilitation skills. • Ability to distill complex information into clear, concise messages. • Ability to complete appointments within scheduled ‘scaling’ units is essential. • Must have a non-threatening, aggressive touch when performing procedures. • Teaching skills for oral hygiene and denture care. • Demonstrated ability to meet professional clinical infection control protocols. • Student supervision skills. • Sensitivity to, and patience with clients with dementia and those who might be holocaust survivors.
