Voice System Convergence and Application Specialist

This position consists mainly in participating in architecture convergence of telephony and advanced applications environments for clients of the Bell Business Markets.

Profile Requirements

Technical specialist with experience in designing and delivering IP/traditional telephony systems for our business customers. Knowledge of the unified and traditional communications architecture elements, IP and Ethernet data network technologies, and main communication protocols. Ability to work together with the technical sales teams in order to create solutions that meet our business clients’ needs. Perform products and services researches, conduct laboratory tests when needed, and deliver suggested solutions. The incumbent will be resourceful, will demonstrate good writing skills for the technical phase of business proposals and will show interest in planning operations to be performed according to their level of importance and challenge. The incumbent must hold Avaya/Nortel and/or Cisco and/or Mitel and/or Microsoft certifications.

Bell Canada is the leading provider of network solutions for the business clients market. Within the Bell Business Markets group, the Convergence Consulting Services (CCS) division is mandated to provide Bell Canada with professional practice services for the design and deployment of client solutions for data and telephony networks. Our team boasts over 200 qualified, certified professionals located in Montreal, Quebec, Ottawa and Toronto.

Job Duties / Accountabilities:

The System Integration Consultant Division is looking for Voice System Convergence and Application Specialists to join its voice specialist team.

The incumbent will have the following responsibilities:

·         Be accountable for technical aspects of a solution, developing complex solutions, ensuring short-, medium- and long-term business relationships and client satisfaction.
·         Keep abreast of leading edge technology in telephony systems and data networks used by the industry.
·         Provide support for network and telephony products and services for the sales staff, technical-commercial consultants and technicians.
·         Evaluate costs and labour in the voice architecture integration, as well as writing and documenting the technical phase of the client business proposals.
·         Interact with Product Management and Solutions Development teams.
·         Assume responsibility for solution development and integration with other specialised disciplines: contact centers, network security, wireless network, cellular telephony, etc.
·         Direct and/or validate technological choices and draw up overall and detailed architecture plans for telephony solutions.
·         Design telephony solutions engineering. Produce plans and technical estimates for implementing activities related to the chosen solution. Ensure proper integration of new solutions in the environment used by the client.
·         Coordinate required activities in implementing the solution chosen by the client. Ensure a follow-up so that the conditions set out in the estimate are respected.

Critical Skills / Competencies:

·         Knowledge of unified communications and traditional telephony protocols: SIP, H.323, MGCP, RTP, G.711, G.729, etc.
·         Knowledge of telephony services and standards (key systems, PBX, E.164, PSTN, Centrex, ISDN, SS7, DOD, DID, FAX, 911, CDR, etc.)
·         Technical skills in unified communication products and services (LAN/WAN)
·         Knowledge of application products and services supporting unified communications: TFTP, DNS, DHCP, LDAP, Windows Server 2003, LINUX, etc.
·         Knowledge of standard network protocols: wiring standards, Ethernet, EIGRP, BGP and MPLS protocols, service quality parameters, etc.
·         Ability to design solutions, conduct laboratory tests and business client on-site tests
·         Negotiating and problem-solving skills
·         Excellent oral and written communication skills (French and English)

Critical Knowledge and Training:

·         Bachelor’s degree in Engineering specialized in Telecommunications, Computer Sciences or equivalent experience (member of ‘Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec’ an asset)
·         Industry-recognized IP telephony and networking certifications for major product manufacturers (Cisco, Avaya/Nortel, Microsoft and Mitel)
·         Particular interest in broadening knowledge and expertise
·         Strong knowledge of office system software (MS Office, Internet Explorer, Visio)

Required Experience:

·         Three years of experience in developing solutions for IP and traditional telephony technologies.
·         Three years of experience in client relations.
·         Pertinent experience in the field of expert consulting services.

Preferred Skills / Competencies:

·         Knowledge of Bell Canada products and services.
·         Knowledge of telephony equipment produced by Avaya/Nortel Nortel (Aura, CS1000, AACC, Symposium, Call Pilot), Cisco, Mitel and Microsoft.
·         Knowledge of telecommunications industry more specifically in the following fields: LAN, WAN, IP telephony, cellular telephony, security/wireless technologies.
·         Ability to make timely and efficient decisions.
