Concurrent Disorders Youth Services, Child Youth & Family Program

Position Description:

The Concurrent Disorders Youth Services, part of the CAMH Child, Youth, and Family Program, is seeking applications for a full-time Psychologist for clinical duties in the area of youth with complex addiction and mental health issues. While based in the day hospital, the incumbent will work in a range of service, including inpatient, day hospital and day treatment, and outpatient. Reporting to the Manager, the successful candidate will provide clinical treatment and leadership in the area of concurrent disorders. You will be responsible for various clinical duties, including child and family assessments, treatment planning, and intervention, using evidence-based protocols and approaches. The role will include supervision and evaluation of students and interns, and providing support to the area’s Psychological Associate and/or psychometrist. You will participate in inter-professional collaboration through effective communications and teamwork. The role provides individual, group, and family treatment, including inpatient and day hospital programming with clients and their families. You will assist patients toward their successful transition into the community. You will liaise with other services at CAMH and with community agencies, as required, to consult and coordinate service for clients, and will sustain positive working relationships on the unit, and with internal and external providers. In addition, the candidate will be a member of an inter-professional team and will participate and support: program and CAMH processes, research activities, program development and evaluation, and continuous quality improvement activities. Research opportunities and collaborations may be available. You will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements. This position may involve some evening and weekend work. The position is effective Monday June 4, 2012, and assigned to the concurrent disorder youth service due to open summer of 2012, and located at the Queen Street site.



The successful candidate will possess a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology or equivalent from an APA or CPA accredited clinical psychology program and clinical experience working in an integrated research/clinical environment with a strong theoretical background in developmental psychopathology, assessment skills, and knowledge of cognitive-behavior therapy and psychological testing. The successful applicant must be currently registered in good standing or eligible for registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. Formal training and demonstrated knowledge in concurrent disorders, harm reduction, and evidence-based treatment models are critical. Three or more years of clinical experience working with complex and challenging youth within this age group and their families is preferred. An integrated knowledge of mental health and addictions as well as some experience working with youth and with diverse populations is considered an asset. Certification in Motivational Interviewing is also an asset. Strong skills in group facilitation, individual and family counseling, assessment, and treatment is essential. Knowledge of community resources in substance abuse and mental health treatment within the youth sector is needed. The ability to provide culturally competent service to clients of diverse ethno-racial and cultural backgrounds is essential and experience working in a multi-system, inter-professional environment is required. Excellent leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment are also essential. The successful candidate will have experience in developing and delivering training workshops and contribute to capacity building initiatives. Computer skills, including word processing, electronic communication, and workload measures are essential. Bilingualism (French/English) or proficiency in a second language would be an asset. Please note: This full-time, permanent position is part of the OPSEU Bargaining Unit.

Salary Range: $41.93 - $56.54 per hour
