Resumes are being accepted for the position of Route Performance and Scheduling Specialist. Reporting to the Supervisor of Scheduling and Planning, the successful candidate will provide in depth analysis for up to 60 peak vehicles, provide recommendations on continuous improvement and assist creating work schedules for 150+ bus operators. This position will be responsible for creating and ensuring accurate schedule related information for 19 base routes and numerous other specials. •Prepare various route alternatives including calculation of schedule hours and mileage.
•Utilize scheduling software to continually update and improve vehicle schedules to achieve 90% average on-time performance.
•Assist in the creation, completion and implementation of Operator sign ups.
•Review benchmarks and report service standards and measures.
•Perform route performance monitoring and collect relevant data and provide key recommendations to improve service.
•Investigate, respond and make recommendations for service changes responding to Transit customer concerns and queries related to Schedule and Planning.
•Observe and monitor trip loads through attendance at high-volume stops and sub-nodes and recommend service adjustments to address over or under-loading.
•Attend Pre-board meetings.
•Participate in Planning Committee meetings with ATU to review route schedules for detours, route/route extensions, new hubs and new developments.
•Create and recommend Standard Operating Procedures changes that affect scheduling, planning, service efficiencies, safety and quality service.
•Keep current on transit industry practices and tools. Provide input and make recommendations to integrate new technologies affecting Scheduling and Service Planning performance.
•Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and provincial regulations/legislation and City By-laws.
•Provide support and attend meetings from time to time on behalf of the Supervisor of Scheduling and Planning.
•Work with other City departments, such as Traffic, Parking and Engineering, in assessing the feasibility of routes alternatives and proposed changes.
•Assist in public consultation, marketing and other public education efforts as required.
•Perform other related duties as required.
•Considerable experience related to the duties listed above, normally acquired through the completion of a university degree or college diploma in Business Administration, Transportation Management, Geography or a related discipline and considerable experience related to public sector transit scheduling and route monitoring or other transportation related business. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. •Knowledge of transportation scheduling methods, techniques, principles, and practices of transportation scheduling.
•Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to prepare reports and make presentations.
•Intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
•Excellent organizational and analytical skills with the ability to make decisions.
•Ability to make mathematical computations and work with large amounts of relatively complex data and related information within defined parameters.
•Ability to interpret and apply labour contract provisions related to schedule writing, run cutting and pick procedures.
•Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other City Departments, ATU membership and executive, other transit properties and the public.
•Knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
•Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends to observe various transit route conditions.
•Experience with electronic scheduling software is an asset.
SALARY: $60,165.81 - $75,207.27
