Resumes are being accepted for the position of Senior Corporate Analyst – Financial Reporting within the Finance Department. Reporting to the Manager, Financial Reporting & Accounting, the successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation of the City’s audited financial reports and provincial information returns and regular review of internal controls over general ledger data. HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours per week Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm. Occasional evening work would be required to attend meetings.
•Coordinate the City’s annual external financial statement audit
•Prepare annual audited financial reports for the City, its programs, departments and external partners
•Implement audit recommendations proposed by the external auditors as needed
•Prepare Provincial Financial Information Returns, including coordination of supporting schedules
•Develop financial reporting policies as required
•Identify and assess potential risks in the City’s financial reporting systems and provide assistance to the Manager regarding the design and implementation of effective control-related policies and procedures
•Monitor the effectiveness of control policies and procedures and resolve problems identified
•Prepare reports for the Corporate Administration, Finance & Enterprise Services Committee (CAFES) and Audit Committees as required
•Attend Committee meetings and provide support to the Audit Committee as required
•Manage internal audit projects requiring finance department assistance, as required
•Liaise with financial planning staff to ensure budget information can be incorporated on a consistent basis with PSAB financial reporting in the audited financial reports
•Investigate best practices, conduct research and report results to align with departmental goals
•Lead special projects as required
•Performs other related duties as assigned.
•Extensive experience related to the duties listed above, normally acquired through a professional accounting designation, preferably as a Chartered Accountant (CA), completion of a related university degree and several years of progressive post designation accounting experience in a municipal/public sector environment dealing with complex accounting issues. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
•Experience coordinating annual external financial statement audits is required
•Demonstrates a clear understanding of Public Sector Accounting Board Standards (PSAB) and relevant accounting practices
•Proven analytical, organizational, project management and report writing skills
•Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders including the ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
•Advanced skills with financial reporting software, JD Edwards and Caseware experience preferred
•Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
•Ability to work independently and to prioritize to meet strict deadlines
•Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
SALARY: $72,799- $90,999
