Great-West Life is one of Canada’s leading insurance companies and a major Canadian institutional investor. The team is located in Toronto and this position reports to the Assistant Vice-President, Private Debt Investments.

The Senior Account manager works with the Private Debt team and is responsible for the underwriting, structuring and management of a portfolio of Canadian, investment grade, fixed income investments. The opportunity provides exposure to several industries and fixed income sectors including project finance and syndicated lending. The successful applicant will be a key team member in the investment and management of a growing, multi-billion dollar debt portfolio.

You will be accountable for:
·         Researching, analyzing, and recommending or declining private debt investment opportunities;
·         Conducting detailed due diligence and working with clients’ senior management, lawyers, investment dealers and agents;
·         Making presentations and recommendations to senior management;
·         Managing accounts in the bond portfolio to ensure performance requirements are being met and credit ratings properly reflect the creditworthiness of the borrowers;
·         Develop and maintain relationships with investment dealers, agents and borrowers; and
·         Analyzing borrowers’ requests for consents, waivers, and amendments to existing loan documentation.

Required Competencies and Behaviours:
·         Exceptional communication and negotiation skills;
·         Demonstrated ability to build and sustain relationships;
·         Strategic thinking to see activities in their wider context and act accordingly;
·         Analytical-understanding the economics and issues of an opportunity, along with the underlying risk
·         Self starter-manage projects and meet established goals and deadlines.

Experience and qualifications:
·         12 or more years experience in a similar industry, with at least 8 years involving complex credit and/or debt related transactions
·         An undergraduate degree in business, finance or economics along with an MBA or comparable degree and/or a professional designation such as the CFA
·         Extremely proficient in credit analysis and an excellent knowledge of the bond and capital markets
·         Strong understanding of loan documentation and credit risk mitigation methods
·         Good knowledge of accounting and finance
·         Ability to work French is considered an asset
