Position Overview:
The successful candidate for this position is knowledgeable and experienced in employee benefit underwriting for group plans, and within the group office works closely with Account Managers.  This position prepares quotes including the development of manual and experience-rated benefits, risk assessment, plan design, ARC (manual rating system), Health Experience Analysis system and outputs an understanding of how much of the underwriting fund to be used to invest in obtaining the account.  The candidate is expected to complete the Certificate in Group Benefits in the Certified Employee Benefits Specialist program or equivalent.

·         Prepare Request for Proposals (RFP) 
·         Maintain a register of all RFPs including date of receipt, assignment, underwriting fund usage, decline ratios, etc.
·         Review of request for proposals received from advisors
·         Develop manual rates, followed by preparation of experience rated rates
·         Prepare written proposal including rate and benefit comparisons including responses to any questionnaires included in the RFP
·         Assist Account Managers in managing assigned accounts including:
·         Annual renewal including detailed review of renewal action proposed by Head Office.
·         Determining rate action to be proposed to the client and/or advisor within the broad parameters of the Underwriting policy
·         Preparing renewal reports/letters as well as financial information     recommending  benefit changes to minimize rate increases

Qualifications and Competencies:
  • Post secondary degree
  • Strong business writing skills
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong organizational skills including an ability to manage multiple demands
  • Enjoys working in a team environment.
  • Strong computer skills particularly with Excel, Word and a working knowledge of PowerPoint.
