SOFTWARE DEVELOPERS – VB/VB.Net & Mainframe

We have an exciting opportunity located at Canada Life in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Great-West, London Life and Canada Life are members of the Power Financial Corporation group of companies, which also includes Investors Group Inc. and Mackenzie Financial Corporation. The Information Services organizations of the five companies have combined to form one of the largest I.S. organizations in Canada.

 

The Career Centres, which supply skilled I.S. practitioners to our organization, are part of the overall I.S. Division. These site-specific centres of excellence focus on five Information Technology disciplines (Project Managers, Systems Analysts, Systems Architects, Software Developers and Corporate Technology Specialists).

 

The functional roles of the Career Centres include: provide resource management and professional development services to all internal I.S. Division business areas and programs; and development/maintenance of I.S. best practices as part of the application delivery process within each of the I.S. business sites.

 

Accountabilities:

 

The Software Developer Career Centre is responsible for the design and development of software solutions.  

 


The role involves the following specific activities:

·         Design, develop and test software to specifications

·         Install software

·         Support production (may include 24x7 on call support)

·         Provide consultation with the Systems Architect and Systems Analyst

·         Participate in project planning

·         Knowledge of software design, design methodologies, and design documentation tools

·         Knowledge of IT industry current trends


Qualifications:

* For either position you have a degree in computer science or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with a minimum of 2 years experience in a software developer role.


VB/VB.Net Developer Qualifications:

·         Minimum 2-5 years practical experience working as a software developer with strong expertise in VB.NET, Frameworks, SQL Server 2000/2005.

·         Experience in integration and support of 3rd party software/applications.

·         Knowledge of XML/XSD concepts, Crystal Reports, JavaScript, and HTML

·         Knowledge of software design, methodologies and documentation standards.

·         Proven leadership skills with a commitment to customer service.

·         Creative and possess strong problem-solving and communication skills.

·         Excellent organizational skills combined with a quality focus.

·         Demonstrates initiative, flexibility and adaptability.

 

Mainframe Developer Qualifications:

·         The preference is that the candidate have good knowledge of the mainframe environment using COBOL, CICS and DB2, with insurance and Ingenium knowledge an asset.

·         You show initiative, adapt easily to change and demonstrate strong customer service and communication skills.

·         Knowledge of software design, methodologies and documentation standards.

·         Proven leadership skills with a commitment to customer service.

·         Creative and possess strong problem-solving and communication skills.

·         Excellent organizational skills combined with a quality focus.

·         Demonstrates initiative, flexibility and adaptability.
