Development in the Halifax Regional Municipality is on the upswing and in order to maximize on all business opportunities, the HRM Development Approvals division has responded by creating new multi-disciplinary teams to meet the demands. Coupled with this growth is the mandate to create a more efficient and customer focused process that will ensure that HRM is supportive of new development and provides a high level of service to its citizens.

As the Major Projects Planner you will act as Team Lead in multi-disciplinary groups to manage larger projects through the development approvals process. Working with your team you will design and facilitate customer and community focused strategic planning and consultation processes, prepare and present complex reports regarding factors affecting land use and community planning issues, and act as a liaison between internal and external stakeholders.

As a representative of HRM, you will meet with other government agencies and community and special interest groups to review specific projects or present information relating to development issues. Leading negotiations with a variety of stakeholders, you will provide advice on ways of complying with municipal policy, and will work to reach mutually beneficial solutions. You will also be responsible to foster cooperation and strong working relationships between your team and other HRM business units and outside agencies.

Your post-secondary degree in planning coupled with 6+ years of experience in a professional planning environment means you bring strong knowledge of urban planning theory and practices to the table. This knowledge makes you a Subject Matter Expert on a broad range of planning matters and allows you to take all aspects of an issue into account before making a decision. You have demonstrated your ability to manage multiple projects that vary in scope and size, and you have the determination and follow through necessary to ensure timely delivery.
