Salary Range: $22.75/hour - $24.50 /hour

Hours of Work: Casual status means that you will make a written commitment to be available for work on a relief and intermittent basis to meet fluctuating staffing needs

This position is covered by a collective agreement.

 

The Registered Orthopaedic Technologist organizes the workload and fulfils the responsibilities of the position with a high degree of autonomy within established guidelines and procedures. The attending physicians provide clinical direction and support for the unexpected or unusual clinic problems. This is a high volume, fast paced clinic area requiring exceptional patient management skills for both adult and paediatric populations. The Registered Orthopaedic Technologist’s practice is consistent with the standards established by the Canadian Society of Orthopaedic Technologists.



Qualifications:



  • Relevant post secondary education or equivalent

  • Completion of a recognized Registered Orthopaedic Technologist training program

  • Two (2) years of related experience

  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and skill in the application of a variety of casts, traction fittings, splints and braces/appliances

  • Demonstrated ability to adjust and remove cast

  • Demonstrated ability to mobilize patients in a safe and effective manner through the use of proper lifting and positioning techniques

  • Physical ability to manipulate and position fracture limbs or other body parts in awkward positions for long periods of time

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of theory and practice of aseptic techniques

  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles of patient teaching and ability to teach effectively

  • Ability to work with both adult and paediatric populations in an effective manner

  • Demonstrated excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated effective organizational skills involving time management and prioritization

  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team in a cooperative and facilitative manner

  • Ability to give and receive feedback in an open and constructive manner

  • Demonstrated flexibility, adaptability and ability to manage change in a dynamic environment

  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
