Reporting to the Manager Pathology Laboratories, the Coordinator provides administrative leadership and coordinates the activities of the Histopathology, Immunopathology, Neuropathology and Electron Microscopy Laboratories. This position will liaise with the Medical Leader of Surgical Pathology in the development and enforcement of policies, processes and procedures including the development and monitoring of quality programs to ensure good laboratory practices and applicable standards are followed. The Coordinator will also act as an administrative resource; manage human and material resources; and monitor the laboratory budgets. A major focus of this rewarding role is fostering effective working relationships and linkages with the Medical Leader of Surgical Pathology, Sections Heads within the teams and with other teams and departments across the organization.

  • Qualifications:

  • Certification by The Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS)

  • Advanced Registered Technologist (ART) level in Histotechnology or equivalent preferred;

  • Current certificate of registration from College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO);

  • Minimum five (5) years clinical expertise preferably in Pathology and preferably in an acute care academic teaching hospital;

  • Minimum two (2) years of progressive responsibility in a leadership role;

  • Demonstrated commitment to the development of professional practice, mentorship, life-long learning and excellence in patient care;

  • Demonstrated experience with the principles and practice of Shared Leadership;

  • Knowledge and comprehensive understanding of budgets, labour relations and hospital operations preferred;

  • Understanding of and experience with workload measurement, staffing/scheduling and budgeting an asset;

  • A track record of successful transition/change management.

  • Demonstrated a regional perspective in planning and operations

  • Demonstrated a customer-focused attitude

  • Demonstrated computer skills including but not limited to, data base and spreadsheet applications
