PLANT MECHANIC

Start Rate $23.65 per hour
$23.65 - $29.65 per hour (ATU Bargaining Unit)


As a Plant Mechanic in GO Transit’s Station Operations Central Office, you will ensure Metrolinx’s facilities, plant equipment and systems are operated and maintained in a safe and effective manner. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carrying out inspection, installation, operation, preventative maintenance.
  • Remedial repairs of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and steam controls systems, equipment, tools, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
  • Minor structural repairs.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of industrial maintenance normally attained through completion of courses related to certification as an Industrial.
  • Mechanic Millwright. Completion of community college level course on welding.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience involving the operation and specialized maintenance of large facilities and of the associated equipment supporting heavy rail and bus repair, including experience in gas cutting, soldering, brazing, gas and arc welding, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Must have a working knowledge of pertinent environmental regulations, codes and health and safety regulations. 
  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills. 
  • Must have a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s licence and must meet corporate standard for a good driving record. 
  • Ability to operate forklift personnel lifts (scissor or telescopic) and/or other similar equipment.  Must be able to obtain GO Transit Equipment Operator’s Permit. 
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain First Aid Certification, in addition to successfully completing environmental, safety, and any other training required by corporate policy.
