Health Safety and Wellness Manager, Metrolinx
For a health, safety and wellness management professional, this is an opportunity to support a dynamic organization that is poised to make a real difference in the lives of Ontarians.
An agency of the Government of Ontario, Metrolinx is charged with developing and implementing a transportation plan for the metropolitan region encompassing the cities of Toronto and Hamilton, and the regional municipalities of Durham, Halton, Peel and York.
The 2010 merger with GO Transit provided Metrolinx with operational know-how. Now, together with its Air Rail Link and Presto fare card divisions, the plan is now in place for transportation infrastructure to support economic growth and quality of life improvements much as it did during the urban boom of the 1960s and 70s. The plan is to build over 1,200 kilometres of rapid transit – more than triple over what exists now – so that more than 75 per cent of residents in the region will live within two kilometres of rapid transit.

Reporting to the Director Human Resources, the Health, Safety and Wellness Manger leads the team responsible for the development, implementation, and communication of the corporate Occupational Health and Safety Program, Integrated Claims Management Program, ESRTW Program, and the Wellness Program. This role ensures regulatory requirements under the OHSA and WSIA are adhered to through policies, procedures and programs to management and employees. In this role you will manage the Health, Safety and Wellness portfolio to ensure that Metrolinx establishes a high level of delivering business value through the Corporation’s Wellness initiatives and programs.  This strategy must be a pro-active, comprehensive and integrated approach to the health of the organization and its employees.
As an ideal candidate for this role, you are a Health, Safety and Wellness professional with significant experience in positions of similar supervisory responsibility for over five years, ideally in collective bargaining environments. In past roles, you have demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and possess sound judgement in dealing with important and sensitive subject matter. You have demonstrated an ability to operate in a time-critical operations environment. In addition, you possess experience in aligning organizational and HR objectives and strategies with Health, Safety and Wellness objectives and strategies. You have obtained a university degree in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent; CRSP designation preferred. A graduate degree would be considered an asset.
