Our Rapid Transit Implementation Business Unit is seeking a Manager, Civil Infrastructure to provide comprehensive engineering and project management services associated with the delivery of the vivaNext BRT Program, meeting corporate needs and customer expectations in a timely, safe, and cost-effective manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing the efficient delivery of bus rapid transit corridor infrastructure elements through project activities including preliminary design, detailed design, preparation of contract documents, construction, contract management and commissioning activities.
  • Managing staff and service providers involved in the delivery of Metrolinx-related infrastructure, providing input and direction, managing expenditures and delivery schedules.
  • Managing value engineering, risk assessment, life cycle costing, earned value and constructability reviews.
  • Assisting with the development and assessment of alternative procurement options to meet market and business conditions relating to the delivery and implementation of the bus rapid transit corridor infrastructure.
  • Working in conjunction with Metrolinx’s other business units, operational departments, and various partners, agencies, stakeholders, utility companies etc. to define requirements, develop project implementation plans and ensure compliance with Metrolinx directives.
  • Ensuring legislative and regulatory compliance, proper stakeholder communication and public consultation.
  • Assist in developing the annual and multi-year budget and cash flow requirements.
Location:                5160 Yonge Street, Toronto

  • Degree in applied science or engineering from a university of recognized standing, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience in civil engineering, transit infrastructure and service provider management.  Professional designation in a related field recognized in the Province of Ontario is considered an asset.
  • Minimum eight (8) years’ experience related to the planning, design, construction and commissioning of transit facilities, road infrastructure and related works.
  • Good knowledge of Design-Build, Alternative Financing and Procurement, large multi-year capital projects within a built-up environment, and legislation / regulations regarding safety and employment.
  • Knowledge of industry and Metrolinx design and construction standards, practices and procedures; sound knowledge of outside agencies and how their requirements impact Metrolinx projects.
  • Sound knowledge of Contract Law, Construction Liens Act of Ontario, The Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario, Ontario Environmental Assessment Act and the Professional Engineers Act (1990) of Ontario.
  • Excellent human relations and management skills.  Sound knowledge of management/supervisory principles and practices.  Excellent analytical ability, oral/written communication skills, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to co-ordinate a number of complex projects under pressure and critical schedules.  Thorough knowledge of budgetary process and cost and schedule management is an asset.  Professional Project Manager (PMP) certification is an asset.
