RAIL SAFETY OFFICER
$76,775 to $96,435 per annum

GO Transit’s Railway Corridors office is seeking an experienced safety professional who will manage the development of the Railway Corridors Safety Program and ensure ongoing alignment and compliance with the GO Safety Management System (SMS). 

You will collaborate and liaise with System Safety, Transport Canada and various Contractors’ Safety representatives while promoting rail safety and ensuring that Railway Corridors meet all regulatory and corporate safety related requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct investigations of accidents/ incidents; produce reports to outline root cause and process improvement recommendations.
  • Track incidents for review and trend analyses; recommend interventions/improvements to enhance safety awareness and reduce accidents.
  • Perform safety audits of external contractors to identify hazards associated with both maintenance and rehabilitation; maintain contractor safety records; coordinate the continual development of safety initiatives with contractor safety representatives.
  • Plan, develop and implement safety management programs to eliminate hazards and mitigate risk while aligning with the GO Safety Management System; review policies and procedures to ensure alignment with guidelines, external railways, provincial agencies and recommend updates.
  • Coordinate with a variety of internal departments on annual safety objectives; prepare safety performance reports for senior management.

Qualifications:
  • University degree in a related field of experience, OR a combination of education and experience deemed equivalent
  • Minimum 6 years’ related experience (e.g. incident investigations, root cause analysis, workplace audits, safety management systems and programs).
  • Exceptional influencing, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills along with strong attention to detail are required.
