Job Summary:
Accountable for formulating a strategic vision and providing leadership in the management of a municipal long term care facility 24/7 and outreach programs. In addition, the position develops and maintains effective relationships with the Ministry of Health and Long Tem Care, associations, agencies and educational institutions in the community associated with long term care to contribute to the development of a successful health care system manages the associated human and finance resources.
Directs the implementation of division strategies, and the operations of the work unit, including organization structure and job design, and manages financial and human resources. Accountable for hiring and firing, performance management and discipline of staff as necessary, and acts as spokesperson for the employer at grievance hearings.

Statement of Qualifications:
Four year university undergraduate degree in Public Administration, Health Administration or related discipline.
At least eight years management experience. Three years experience in a long term care or geriatric-gerolotological environment.
The successful candidate will be required to complete a Police Record Check to the City's of Ottawa satisfaction.
A valid Ontario unrestricted class "G" drivers license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated.

Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability, may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.

Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of management in complex, multi-disciplinary organization.
Principles and practices of quality management, risk management and disaster planning.
Legislation, regulations and standards related to the design and operation of a long term care home in Ontario.
Management of human resources, finance and occupational health and safety.
Public consultation policy and procedures.
Communication principles and practices in human service organizations.

Competencies and Skills:
Manage a complex program and the change processes effectively.
Manage a multi-program and service organization with a diverse resident population.
Work effectively with residents, families, staff, consultants, other levels of government, politicians and the community.

Day 1 ready - immediate requirement for language proficiency:
French oral, reading, writing
English oral, reading, writing
Candidates must meet language requirement for position upon hire.
