PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE –
INFECTION PREVENTION & SURVEILLANCE (PH12-18)
Duration: approximately nine (9) months
Health Services- Communicable Diseases

The Vaccine Management Program requires one self-directed, enthusiastic individual to work within a collaborative team environment to deliver services in accordance with the Mandatory Programs and Services Guidelines. You will be responsible for vaccine cold chain investigation and follow up; vaccine cold chain education and support for internal and external Regional clients. You will also support the Supervisor with program development and support the vaccine release in accordance with publicly funded vaccine criteria. In addition, you will develop and maintain linkages with other health professionals and agencies (e.g. physicians, local hospitals, schools, long term care centres and community health agencies) Examples of job activities (corresponding to the responsibilities listed above) may also include investigating vaccine cold chain failures at physicians’ offices and immunization clinics; approving the release of hepatitis A/B vaccine; reviewing and updating current vaccine management program policies and procedures; providing education and presentations to health care professionals and facilities and developing support materials for educational purposes.

Success requires:
• a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or equivalency as recognized by a Canadian University • a current certificate of competence as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario • recent experience in public health (preferred) • knowledge of infection control practices and communicable diseases • knowledge of vaccines and current Ontario immunization schedule • knowledge of vaccine storage and handling guidelines • knowledge of vaccine stability and cold chain • effective communication skills, both oral and written • strong computer skills in MS Outlook and Word, Power Point and Excel • knowledge and experience with group facilitation and presentations • knowledge of Peel’s diverse community.

Compensation:
$34.80-$41.72 + 6% vacation pay
Location: 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga
Hours of work: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (travel to various clinics, pharmacies, hospitals and doctor’s offices located throughout the Region of Peel will be required)
