PIPE TRADES INSTRUCTOR
SCHOOL OF CONSTRUCTION

INTRODUCTION
The School of Construction is responsive to the educational needs of the construction sector throughout Alberta and Canada. The School is comprised of very dedicated and innovative faculty and staff committed to the success of their students.
The Instructor's role is to provide academic leadership that ensures the Pipe Trades apprenticeship students achieve established learning outcomes to the maximum of their potential. The instructor is expected to work corroboratively with colleagues to create a learning environment which is androgogically sound, technically supported, and innovative in nature. The instructor will be expected to make use of current information and communication technology in the development and delivery of course content.
The School of Construction's Pipe Trades apprenticeship program has an immediate requirement for a permanent full-time instructor to present courses to apprentice lab and theory classes, consult with students about issues relating to completion of course requirements and evaluate student assignments, exercises, lab and shop projects and other course materials.
RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Know, understand, apply and relate to students the essential facts, concepts, procedures and principles in areas of expertise designated by the curriculum, using a variety of instructional techniques, which promote learning as well as personal development.
  • Create teaching and learning plans, course maps, course materials, exams, quizzes, presentations and assessments in support of learning objectives.
  • Show personal interest in the learner and create a climate conducive to optimal learning.
  • Participate in promotional activities such as SAIT's Open House.
  • Demonstrate personal interest in the success of the learner and create a climate conducive to optimal learning.
  • Be involved in the development and delivery of course content.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • The ideal candidate will have an Alberta or Red Seal Journeyperson Certificate in Plumbing, and/or Steamfitting/Pipefitting with a minimum of 5 years experience at the journeyperson level in a variety of service and installation environments.  An Alberta Class A Gasfitter certificate is an asset.
  • A working knowledge of word processing and presentation software, and familiarity with e-mail, calendar and Internet search programs is an asset.
  • Excellent communication and organization, and human relation skills are essential. The ability to convey the conceptual and practical aspects of subjects to students, respecting their diverse backgrounds, experience and individual learning styles is also essential. Candidates must be committed to working within a team environment and to participating in a consultative decision making process. Additional personal competencies include strong organizational skills and a commitment to ethical behavior.

Successful candidates must provide proof of qualifications. Only education obtained from an accredited institution will be recognized.
