Under the direction of the Payroll Supervisor/Analyst the Payroll Officer is responsible for the accurate and timely entry of Part Time Support, Student, Academic Non-teaching, Special payments and non-employee set ups and payments.  The incumbent is responsible for the processing and verification of payments, and deductions to all Sheridan employees and for the monthly balancing and remittance to various agencies which govern or which may dictate payroll processes. They are also responsible for the processing of the biweekly payroll for all employees of the College. He/she is responsible for the processing and verification of payments, and deductions to all Sheridan employees. The incumbent is responsible for the monthly balancing and remittance to various agencies which govern or which may dictate payroll processes.

Specific duties include:
• Maintaining all aspects of Payroll Processing and ensuring accurate and timely remuneration of wages to all employees. 
• Creating, maintaining, upgrading and adapting employee records for  part time support, Administrative, Student, Academic non-teaching, Special Payments and non –employees
• Performing a variety of tasks to  process, distribute and analyse employee related payroll information in Sheridan’s Human Resource Information System (HRIS);
• Ensuring employees’ earnings and applicable fringe benefits are accurately distributed to the respective budget accounts;
• Researching, identifying and implementing changes in legislation, pension or collective agreements that may impact on employees’ payroll and/or benefits;
• Auditing changes for accuracy and relativity and ensuring changes are calculated accurately by performing manual calculations;
• Resolving problems directly with banking institutions and employees biweekly which may arise after the submission of payroll;
• Reconciling specific payroll and benefit general ledger accounts on a monthly basis. Identifying, resolving and correcting discrepancies in a timely manner;
• Reviewing and analyzing documentation provided from departments/faculties to ensure completeness, compliance and accuracy;
• Researching and analysing documentation and decentralized data input for Part Time Support, Student, Academic Non-Teaching, Specialist payments and non –employees pay sheets, Information Forms, etc. daily to ensure completeness, compliance and accuracy.  Liaising with and providing guidance to the department, manager, human resources or Administrative Assistant to clarify discrepancies;
• Monthly balancing and remittance to various agencies which govern or which may dictate payroll policy and/or practices;
• Performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
This position requires a two year diploma in Human Resource Management, Finance/Accounting or related field and completed the Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) from the Canadian Payroll Association and a minimum of three years of relevant experience working in payroll on an in-house computerized HRIS and be well versed in personal computer applications (or relevant combination of education and related work experience).  The candidate must have thorough and current knowledge of Revenue Canada regulations pertaining to payroll, defined pension plans, collective agreements, benefit provider guidelines and health workers’ compensation taxes.  Experience in interpreting collective agreements is preferred.  Knowledge and experience with accounting principles, mathematical calculations, general ledger cost accounting and distributions is also required.   Knowledge of PeopleSoft time and labour module and security preferred. The successful candidate must be able to multi-task, be able to troubleshoot issues and have excellent problem solving abilities, as well as possess well developed organizational abilities in order to meet deadlines.
