Reporting to the Director, Enterprise System Services, the incumbent is part of an application support team that installs, designs, develops, implements and maintains an integrated set of software systems to support all areas of Sheridan’s administrative operations. Primary responsibilities involve installation, support, implementation, development and upgrade of Sheridan’s corporate information systems. The incumbent investigates new or modified user requirements; designs and implements appropriate solutions, solves reported problems with existing systems and assists with the evaluation of new software applications. The incumbent’s primary responsibilities are system support as well as web application design and development. The core systems are Infosilem Timetabler & Enterprise, International Student Processing (ISP), Academic Interface (AI), Caterease, Clockwork, Versatile Pro, Policy Server as well as the corresponding interfaces with the Student Information System (SIS) and various related smaller systems. 

Specific responsibilities include:
• Providing technical support to maintain existing administrative systems by: troubleshooting system and application issues; tracking and monitoring the resolution of reported issues; working with vendors to determine root cause and solution and applying patches and fixes from vendor as needed; solving problems by implementing solutions utilizing the existing technologies or escalating problems to other IT staff when necessary; documenting solutions and following up with end users to ensure complete closure of reported issues; troubleshooting database and backup issues related to desktop applications;
• Assessing and analyzing requests for enhancements, upgrades and modifications to the existing administrative systems and implementing where feasible;
• Meeting with users to discuss needs, scope and timelines and to review requests to determine feasibility of implementation;
• Analysing existing system modules, business procedures and available technologies to identify and define possible solutions
• Developing an implementation strategy including testing procedures; designing, developing and testing agreed solutions;
• Installing software upgrades and new applications;
• Reviewing procedures prior to operational release for adherence to standards and verifying that user requirements are met;
• Ensuring both user manuals and technical documentation are maintained;
• Maintaining, developing and sharing technical skills in a rapidly changing environment by: reading technical journals and attending conferences/courses that could be of value to Sheridan; using list servers and Internet to research new products;
• Sharing knowledge with other Sheridan staff by providing one-on-one training sessions and/or group presentations;
• Providing explanation and/or clarification to the College community on the capabilities and limitations of systems;
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a 2-year diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology or other computer-related field along with a minimum of 3 years of structured systems design and development experience using relational databases (ideally Oracle and/or SQL*Server) including a minimum of 2 years development experience working with VB, VB.Net, ASP, HTML and Windows (or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience).  Excellent listening, oral and written communication and problem solving skills are a must along with the ability to multi-task effectively and work well as a team member and independently.  Must have demonstrated customer service orientation, be able to work well in stressful environments and work effectively with customers to achieve suitable solutions for all parties.
