Reporting to the Vice President, HR & Organizational Development, the Director is a strategic business partner and HR advisor to the Sheridan community, and HR team. He/she helps advance the People Plan and Sheridan’s reputation as a leading employer.  The Director engages the business in deploying HR programs and services in the portfolio, enhances capacity to attract, develop, engage and retain top talent; aligns and strengthens talent at all levels, enables compliance with regulatory and contract terms, and facilitates transformation to deliver on Sheridan’s vision and strategic goals.  The Director leads and manages the Organizational and People Development team and has senior accountability for strategy, systems and resources in the following portfolio areas: Organizational Assessment, Design & Development, Employee Development and Career Planning, Change Leadership, Succession Planning and Competency Management, Leadership Effectiveness and Management Skills Development, Performance Management, Employee Engagement, and Legislative Learning Initiatives.
 
The Director, The Centre for Organizational and People Development’s responsibilities include:
• Leading a team of HR professionals who, as strategic business partners, provide HR technical advice, consultative support and other HR resources to internal clients on a broad range of portfolio issues;
• Leading and assessing organizational needs; designs, develops, implements and evaluates targeted organizational and employee learning and development plans;
• Leading efforts that enhance on-going learning and development within the organization;
• Establishing performance evaluation and feedback, talent development and career planning models across all levels and programs that develop needed skills across the organization;
• Assessing current performance management systems. Working with senior leaders to design and implement effective processes that align with organizational priorities;
• Partnering with client managers and other HR team members in implementation of change initiatives;
• Leading development of succession planning strategy, systems and processes(e.g., talent pipelines, career paths, preparation of successor candidates );
• Providing guidance to leaders on employee engagement issues  i.e. surveys and action plans;
• Developing and leading reward and recognition programs -  aligned with organizational objectives and  key drivers of employee engagement;
• Developing and implementing,  in collaboration with Corporate Communications and the HR leadership team, an employee communication  plan  that supports  corporate strategy and builds employee engagement;
• Providing leadership and direction to the  Organizational and People Development team and builds HR professional capacity;
• Developing and monitoring of operating budgets (including tuition and professional development);
• Working collaboratively as a key member of the HR Senior Management Team with a view to the effective overall service delivery model for the Human Resources function;
• External to HR, the Director sits on various committees that require expertise in his/her functional areas.
 
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will possess 4 year Bachelor’s degree (or 3 year diploma/degree + post graduate certificate in related field) in Organizational Development, Adult Education, HR or related field.  Additional qualifications of a Master’s degree in Education, OD/HR or Adult Education, a Certified HR Professional (CHRP) or Certified Organizational Development Specialist (CODP) designation are preferred.  Additionally, the successful candidate will have a minimum of 9 years of progressive experience in Human Resources with a focus on development and delivery of significant organization development and change management programs and practices. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered. The successful candidate will possess highly developed leadership experience formulating and implementing strategic OD functions including: individual and organizational assessment, change leadership, employee engagement, leadership effectiveness, management development strategies, succession and career planning, employee development, and performance management.  Previous experience working in a consulting environment, post-secondary setting and/or a unionized environment will be considered an asset.  Required for this position are excellent interpersonal and communication skills – including influencing, presentation, facilitation and process consultation strong analytical and problem solving skills, proven success at building professional credibility and reputation for results at all organizational levels, innovative thinking, change leadership skills and highly developed organizational skills.
