Reporting to the Manager, Financial Reporting & Systems, the incumbent will coordinate the preparation of monthly financial statements, annual audited financial statements, Ministry CFIS reports, and a variety of complex special reports. The Senior Financial Reporting Analyst will liaise with staff and managers in Financial Services to establish business processes for financial statement preparation, provide leadership to ensure data is being classified in accordance with accounting standards, and will also recommend accounting treatment for compliance with Public Sector Accounting (PSA) Standards. Using the Financial System (PeopleSoft Financials), he/she will prepare reports needed for management, auditors, and the Ministry and will liaise with other departments in the institution to obtain the needed information for note disclosure in the financial statements.

Specific duties include:
• Coordinating preparation of financial statements for the Board of Governors and the Ministry;
• Coordinating timelines for meeting reporting deadlines and following up on status;
• Monitoring business processes, such as account reconciliation and reconciliation issue resolution, to ensure that they are completed in a timely fashion and so that the data reflected in the financial reports is accurate and up-to-date;
• Preparing the annual financial statements, coordinating input from other employees in Financial Services who prepare individual components, and liaising with external auditors;
• Preparing CFIS budget submission and interim budget reports including estimates for the following 5 years;
• Planning preparation of periodic complex reports, such as financial statements, to reflect new accounting standards, including retroactive application of standards, and liaising with actuaries and auditors;
• Coordinating preparation of other financial reporting requests from the Ministry, Statistics Canada, Marsh Canada, etc.;
• Investigating system process issues affecting the financial reporting process, developing possible solutions to meet the functional needs, and working with the PeopleSoft Financial Administrator to implement solutions;
• Training and guiding staff within the Financial Reporting and Systems group;
• Other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate must possess a four year degree in Business with specialization in Accounting, or a related field along with a minimum of five years work experience in the financial statement preparation process and consolidation (or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience).  The candidate must have completed a Professional Accounting Designation program (CGA/CMA/CA). The candidate must have demonstrated leadership abilities to delegate tasks and train staff. The successful candidate will possess excellent computer skills in accounting systems (PeopleSoft Financials preferred), Excel and other MS Office applications.  The incumbent must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and have demonstrated customer service skills in order to deal effectively and courteously with both College staff and external contacts.  In addition, the applicant must be able to efficiently handle many tasks simultaneously and demonstrate proven problem-solving skills.
