Reporting to the Manager, Budget and Financial Planning, and working closely with key project stakeholders, the incumbent will be actively involved in project accounting over the life of special projects. The incumbent prepares and revises project budgets in consultation with the budget holders, during proposal development and contract negotiation processes, and will set up the internal project budget on Sheridan’s financial system. The Analyst will track, analyse, reconcile and claim eligible expenditures in accordance with contract guidelines, and will follow established accounting practices to ensure validity of journal entries as well as coordinate audit preparation work to ensure timeliness and accuracy of audit preparation work.  The incumbent is also responsible for identifying the financial impact to the relevant project stake holders when the College’s circumstances or financials have changed and also assists in the preparation of financial statements and other statistical/financial reports.

Specific duties include:
• Supporting proposal development by providing financial guidance in developing accurate budgets; supporting contract negotiations by identifying relevant costs and appropriate level of  funding; setting-up budgets by reviewing financial proposals  agreements; and other financial stipulations;
• Answering queries relating to the finances of the projects; preparing claims and reports according to deadlines; monitoring the financial health of the project and communicating issues in a timely manner and proactively identifying actions required to address these issues; preparing revised cash flow forecasts and budget amendments;
• Ensuring accuracy, validity and timeliness of budget transfers and cost transfers; generating GL and payroll reports and reviewing GL entries for both salary and non-salary expenses; reviewing transaction details to ensure that charges to the project account match up with staff contracts and purchases made;
• Maintaining and providing necessary documentation, data and analysis to support the College’s and the funders’ review processes; liaising with the auditors and budget holders to coordinate project audits and resolve auditor’s queries; preparing special project audit files and expenditure statements; preparing year-end journal entries and rollover budgets to the following year, as required;
• Performing other duties as assigned (i.e. costing analysis, overhead analysis, ad hoc analysis and reporting).

Qualifications:
The successful candidate must possess a 4 year Bachelors degree of Commerce/Math specializing in Accounting or a related field as well as have a minimum of 5 years relevant progressive accounting experience including preparation and analysis of financial data / reports (or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience).  At a minimum, the successful candidate must be at the certification/PACE level of the CGA program, or equivalent. Auditing experience would be considered an asset.  Experience with an Ontario College’s financial and payroll systems and with College staffing models and collective agreements will be considered an asset. The incumbent will require a high level of critical thinking and problem solving skills to assemble and analyze complex financial data.  The incumbent must also possess good judgment and strong communication and relationship management skills to build effective working relationships with a variety of College employees from front line to senior levels in a range of departments.
