Position Summary
Reporting to the IT Infrastructure Manager, the Senior Technical Specialist will play a pivotal role in the Brookfield Renewable Business Services Group IT organization by providing expert architectural insight and design for infrastructure aspects related to network and security services. The successful candidate will utilize their extensive knowledge and experience to provide technical expertise and guidance on the development and implementation of robust network and security solutions, ensuring the highest levels of system reliability and performance.
Responsibilities
- Provide operational sustainment for the IT infrastructure landscape, which involves monitoring, maintaining, and optimizing the network and security services to meet the organization's operational requirements;
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to team members within the domain;
- Provide advice to projects on design and architecture;
- Ensure projects align with the existing IT infrastructure landscape and meet the organization's security and networking requirements.
Core Strengths
- Knowledge of key security concepts including Least Privilege, Encryption, Vulnerability; Management, Penetration Testing, Security Baselines, AAA, Multi-Factor Authentication, etc.
- Strong knowledge of network architecture, protocols, and technologies, including TCP/IP, VPNs, MPLS, QoS and routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP, and EIGRP;
- Experience with designing and implementing large-scale enterprise networks, including LANs, WANs, and wireless networks;
- Expertise in network security, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention, and access control;
- Proficiency in network automation and scripting languages such as Python, Perl, or PowerShell;
- Knowledge of cloud networking technologies, including virtual private clouds (VPCs), software-defined networking (SDN), and cloud security best practices;
- Understanding of regulatory compliance requirements and their implications for network architecture and design.
Requirements
- Extensive experience in both layer-2 and layer-3 technologies and a strong understanding of Ethernet, WiFi (IEEE 802.11), Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs), Internet Protocol (IP), Address Resolution Protocol (ARP), and routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP, and EIGRP. Additionally, experience with Quality of Service (QoS) mechanisms, Network Address Translation (NAT), Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), and Access Control Lists (ACLs) is preferred;
- Experience working in a fast paced, dynamic, rapidly growing environment;
- Excellent communications skills and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal with the ability to articulate solutions at both a technical level and business level;
- Strong leadership and project management skills, with the ability to lead projects and initiatives from conception to implementation;
- Excellent administrative, organizational and time management skills;
- Ability to deal effectively with a wide range of individuals and foster partnerships with internal and external stakeholders;
- Ability to travel (if required) and work after hours (if needed) to support incident resolution;
- Have an agile mindset towards delivery and quickly adopt new technologies with an “out of the box” thought pattern.
Qualifications
- Degree from recognized University or College, in Computer Science, Information Systems or a discipline relevant to the position or equivalent experience;
- Cisco Certifications or relevant experience;
- Relevant industry certifications, such as CCIE, JNCIE, or AWS Certified Solutions Architect.
