Founded in 1910 and located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Mount Royal University grew into a vibrant college in the 1930s and became a mid-sized university in 2009. Mount Royal has carved out a distinct niche by offering smaller class sizes, a robust liberal education and unique undergraduate programs. Mount Royal University is located in the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of the Treaty 7 region in southern Alberta, which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut'ina and the Iyarhe Nakoda. We are situated on land where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. The traditional Blackfoot name of this place is "Mohkinstsis," which we now call the city of Calgary. Mount Royal University’s (MRU) Conservatory has played a pivotal role in Calgary’s performing arts scene since 1911, enabling people of all ages and abilities to take part in the performing arts. No other performing arts organization has a comparable history or serves as large and diverse a community, from early childhood education through all stages of life. As an educational leader and innovator, it is the largest institution of its kind in Canada; the Conservatory is unique in the breadth and scope of its programming.
The Faculty of Continuing Education, Conservatory, invites applications for two part-time credit-free Early Childhood Music Instructor positions. Applicants can apply for the two positions if proficient in both. The successful candidates will offer comprehensive early childhood music training to students in "Music with Your Baby", "Music and Movement", and/or Kodaly group classes. The teaching assignments will be for weekends and with the possibility of weekdays, late afternoon, and early evenings as well.
Instructor for Early Childhood Kodaly courses: children ages 3 to 9 years
The MRU Conservatory Early Childhood Music curricula is broad-based with a strong focus on Kodaly early childhood music development techniques and its philosophy. The successful candidate will be energetic, motivated, and passionate about children and childhood development through music. Advanced training in the Kodaly method is required. The instructor will work collaboratively with the early childhood music coordinator to foster the growth of the program.
- Instruction: course delivery including preparation of course outline, course activities, lesson preparation, and assessments
- Administration: submit course attendance sheets, course outline, signature forms, final assessments upon course completion, and participate in scheduled program meetings.
Instructor for "Music with Your Baby" courses (0-36 months) and "Music and Movement" courses (3-4 years)
The MRU Conservatory Early Childhood Music curricula for the "Music with Your Baby" and "Music and Movement" program is built on the foundation of development techniques for young children from 0 months to 4 years of age, enhancing the child's natural abilities through music and language. The program also prepares parents to bring music into their young child's daily experiences. The successful candidate will be energetic, motivated, and passionate about children and childhood development through music. Advanced training in the Kodaly method is required. The instructor will work collaboratively with the early childhood music coordinator to foster the growth of the program.

The instructor must bring expertise in early childhood music, including in-depth knowledge of Kodaly music education with knowledge of Orff, Suzuki, and Dalcroze music education techniques as an asset.
Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Education (professional equivalency will be considered) and Kodaly diploma levels preferred; musicianship and pedagogy training; experience working with young children; teaching experience; strong organizational and interpersonal skills; energetic and enthusiastic personality.
